Here is a good example of the difference in wheel tread wear patterns between West Coast profile rail and my 141 pound profile rail. The 141 lb rail is shown in the bottom of the picture, with the West Coast profile on the top. Notice how the 141 lb profile rail tread pattern is near the top center of the rail. The West Coast rail tread pattern is on the top inside edge of the rail. The 141 lb rail will last longer and is easier on your wheels, as the radius of the rail fits the wheels much better. The West Coast rail will actually start wearing almost immediately to fit the profile of the wheels better. That will wear your wheels and rail faster. The 141 lb rail will last longer and create less friction on your wheels for easier rolling trains.
